America on the Eve of the Presidential Election

Ahead of Election Day on November 5, millions of Americans continue to cast their ballots early, while both presidential candidates make the most of the remaining time to campaign.

Voters in Michigan and across the nation are participating in early voting as the official election date approaches. As of November 3, over 74 million Americans have already voted early, out of approximately 244 million eligible voters. States like North Carolina, with 4.5 million early votes, and Georgia, with around 4 million, are reporting record-breaking early voting turnout.

Both the Democratic and Republican campaigns are entering their final preparations.

On November 3, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris’s campaign staff set up a stage on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., for an election night event. Harris and Democratic officials will gather there to watch the results unfold on the evening of November 5. Howard University, where Harris once studied, expressed pride in their alumna, who made history as the first woman of color to serve as U.S. Vice President.

The Republican Party, meanwhile, has chosen West Palm Beach, Florida, as the site for their election night gathering. On November 3, the atmosphere was already electric, with supporters waving flags and holding Trump campaign signs as they marched through the streets. The West Palm Beach Police Department, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Department of Homeland Security are coordinating to ensure the event’s security.

Campaign banners for both Trump and Harris were displayed side by side on November 2 in Pennsylvania, one of the key battleground states. In this costly race, both candidates are sparing no expense in promoting their images through media and street advertisements. In the days leading up to the election, large crowds of supporters for both candidates have taken to the streets to show their enthusiasm. On November 2, thousands of women marched in Washington to back Democratic candidate Harris and express their support for abortion rights.

Both candidates are also holding last-minute rallies in critical states.

On November 3, Harris visited Michigan for her final campaign event there. Speaking to voters in a state that is home to about 240,000 Muslim residents, she promised to do everything in her power to end the conflict in Gaza. According to Michigan’s Secretary of State office, nearly 3 million voters in the state had cast their ballots early by the morning of November 3. In the 2020 election, Democratic candidate Joe Biden narrowly defeated Trump in Michigan.

Former President Trump also held a rally on November 3 in Kinston, North Carolina, one of this year's seven battleground states. He reminded his supporters that North Carolina had brought him good fortune in the past and expressed confidence that he would secure the state’s 16 electoral votes this year.

“We’ve won here before. I even named my little granddaughter Carolina,” Trump said.

With Trump and Harris polling neck and neck, the outcome of the race will likely hinge on the results in these critical battleground states.
