Apple Announces $500 Billion U.S. Investment

Apple has unveiled a $500 billion investment plan over the next four years, beginning in February, to manufacture AI servers in Houston and create 20,000 new jobs across the United States.

The announcement came after a meeting between Apple CEO Tim Cook and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House last week.

"We are optimistic about America’s future innovations and proud to commit $500 billion to contribute to that future," Cook stated.

Apple’s Expansion Plan Across the U.S.

Apple’s plan includes:

  • Building a new manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas, in partnership with Foxconn, to produce AI servers for Apple Intelligence's Private Cloud Compute system—which were previously manufactured outside the U.S.

  • Establishing a manufacturing academy in Michigan to train future workers.

  • Expanding R&D operations nationwide to support AI and software development.

  • Upgrading data center capacity in North Carolina, Iowa, Oregon, Arizona, and Nevada to handle the growing demands of Apple Intelligence.

  • Hiring approximately 20,000 employees for R&D, AI, and software development.

Apple’s investment will also cover procurement from U.S. suppliers and content production for Apple TV+. However, the company did not disclose specific spending plans for its domestic supply chain partners, such as Corning, which manufactures iPhone glass in Kentucky.

Trade Tariffs and Apple's Positioning Under Trump

According to Reuters, Apple’s products assembled in China may face a 10% tariff increase under Trump’s new trade policies, though the company has received some tariff exemptions from China during Trump’s first term.

Analyst Gil Luria of D.A. Davidson called Apple’s pledge a strategic move aimed at the Trump administration, noting that the $500 billion figure could include all of Apple’s planned spending in the U.S..

Apple made a similar pledge in 2018, when it announced $350 billion in investments over five years to boost the U.S. economy.

Most Apple products are still assembled overseas. However, last month, Apple began producing its custom-designed chips at a TSMC-owned facility in Arizona.

Trump Welcomes Apple’s Commitment

In a Truth Social post, Trump thanked Apple and Tim Cook, saying the company’s commitment reflects confidence in his administration.
