A five-story building in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, was flattened during an airstrike, leaving at least 93 dead.
"93 people were martyred. Around 40 more remain missing under the rubble of the five-story residential building, once belonging to the Abu Nasr family, after it was hit by Israeli forces last night," said Mahmud Bassal, spokesperson for Gaza's civil defense, on October 29.
Hani Mahmoud, a journalist for Al Jazeera, confirmed the building was completely destroyed by the Israeli bombing.
"I saw people pulling out bodies and injured victims from the debris. Most of the victims were women and children. People are trying to treat the wounded, but there are no suitable hospitals or medical facilities," said Rabie al-Shandagly, a refugee sheltering at a nearby school.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched a new offensive on northern Gaza on October 6, focusing on Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun, aiming to prevent Hamas from regrouping. On October 29, the IDF announced multiple air and ground assaults in Jabalia, claiming to have killed around 40 fighters.
The Gaza civil defense stated that hundreds of Palestinians have been killed and tens of thousands displaced since the start of Israel’s latest campaign.
