Gulfstream G800 Becomes World's Longest-Range Private Jet
Powered by twin Rolls-Royce engines and a sleek aerodynamic design, the Gulfstream G800 has officially earned the title of the world’s longest-range private jet, with a maximum range of 9,008 miles (14,484 kilometers)—capable of flying nearly anywhere on Earth without stopping.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) granted full certification to the G800, according to Interesting Engineering on May 5. The jet is capable of connecting almost any two cities in the world, with only a few exceptions such as London to Sydney.
The G800 can cruise at Mach 0.85 (652 mph or 1,050 km/h) and cover a distance of 9,435 miles (15,186 km)—about 230 miles more than its originally projected range. Even at a faster cruise of Mach 0.87 (667 mph), it still achieves 9,205 miles (14,816 km). At Mach 0.90 (690 mph), it flies 8,055 miles (12,964 km). The aircraft's top speed has also increased slightly, from 710 mph to 717 mph (1,155 km/h).
“This level of performance marks a turning point in private aviation,” said Gulfstream President Mark Burns.
Beyond range and speed, the G800 also excels in runway performance. It requires just 5,810 feet (1,771 meters) of runway for takeoff and 3,104 feet (946 meters) for landing under standard sea-level conditions—allowing access to more airports around the world.
Equipped with twin Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines and advanced aerodynamic wings, the G800 is second only to the Bombardier Global 8000 in top speed among private jets.
Inside, the G800 delivers both luxury and functionality. It offers up to four living areas or three living areas plus a dedicated crew compartment. The jet can accommodate up to 19 passengers, with sleeping arrangements for 10. Passengers enjoy leather recliners, plush carpeted interiors, and Gulfstream’s signature oval windows—16 in total—for panoramic views. The cabin features high-speed Wi-Fi, a low-noise environment, and air purified through a plasma ionization system. One standout feature: a cabin altitude of just 2,850 feet (866 meters) even while cruising at 41,000 feet (12,497 meters), which helps reduce fatigue on long-haul flights.
“Our team continues to push boundaries while upholding safety, quality, and a deep commitment to our customers,” said Burns. “We’re ready to bring the G800 into service as we begin deliveries in the U.S. and Europe.”
As Gulfstream celebrates this milestone, another aerospace giant is preparing to launch a very different kind of aircraft. U.S.-based Radia recently unveiled plans for the WindRunner, set to become the world’s largest airplane by 2030. The WindRunner is being designed specifically to transport massive wind turbine blades—some reaching lengths of 100 meters—that are too large for conventional road or air transport. In some wind energy projects, entire roads have to be built just to move the blades, according to Gulfstream News.
While the WindRunner aims to revolutionize heavy-duty logistics, the Gulfstream G800 continues to redefine global business aviation with its unmatched blend of speed, range, and refined comfort.
