Israel launched at least 17 airstrikes on the outskirts of Beirut within 24 hours, marking the most intense assault on the area in over a year. According to Lebanon’s state news agency (NNA), six buildings in the Laylaki district, south of Beirut, were destroyed. These strikes followed a warning by an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson urging civilians to evacuate.
In a separate strike on Al-Mayadeen TV’s office, one person was killed and five were injured. Israel also targeted Hezbollah strongholds in Tyre, flattening seven buildings and damaging over 400 apartments. In response, Hezbollah launched 135 rockets at northern Israel.
The escalation comes amid U.S. efforts to de-escalate regional tensions during Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to the Middle East. Israel claims to have achieved most of its strategic goals in Gaza but continues to strike Hezbollah targets following rocket attacks from the group.
