Israeli Prime Minister dismisses Defense Minister

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on November 5, citing a loss of trust between them. Netanyahu stated that absolute trust between the Prime Minister and Defense Minister is crucial, and although there was initially effective cooperation, this trust had eroded over the past few months. As a result, he decided to end Gallant's tenure.

Netanyahu appointed Foreign Minister Israel Katz as the new Defense Minister, praising Katz's contributions to national security. Gideon Saar, Minister without Portfolio, was named the new Foreign Minister.

Yoav Gallant, known for his hardline stance against Hezbollah in Lebanon, often disagreed with Netanyahu on the Gaza conflict. Netanyahu criticized Gallant in August for allegedly supporting a ceasefire in Gaza. Despite efforts to resolve their differences, Netanyahu said the situation worsened, affecting both the Israeli public and national security.

The conflict in Gaza escalated after a Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and led to 251 hostages being taken. Nearly 100 hostages are still held in Gaza, with several believed to have died. Israel's military campaign in Gaza has resulted in over 43,300 deaths, mostly civilians, according to local health authorities. The conflict has also drawn in Tehran-backed forces, notably Hezbollah, who have joined efforts against Israel.
