Molotov Cocktail Attack at Pro-Israel Walk in Colorado Leaves Multiple Injured
Several people were injured—some critically—after a man launched what witnesses described as a Molotov cocktail at a peaceful pro-Israel march in Boulder, Colorado, authorities said.
Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn confirmed that officers responded to an emergency call reporting a man with a weapon near the downtown courthouse. Upon arrival, they found multiple victims suffering from burn injuries. Some were in life-threatening condition.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was taken into custody at the scene and transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
The incident occurred near a group of people participating in a solidarity walk to raise awareness about hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza. Eyewitnesses reported the attacker threw a firebomb into the crowd.
FBI Director Kash Patel described the incident as a “targeted terrorist attack” and confirmed that federal agents were on the scene assisting with the investigation. However, Chief Redfearn urged caution, stating that it was too early to determine the suspect’s motive, while calling the act “completely unacceptable.”
Authorities evacuated buildings in Boulder’s busy Pearl Street district and urged residents to stay away from the area. Law enforcement also reported finding suspicious vehicles nearby and said the scene remained “unstable.”
“I’m closely monitoring the situation in Boulder and extend my thoughts to those injured or impacted by this brutal terrorist act,” said Colorado Governor Jared Polis. “There is no place for hate-fueled violence in our state.”
The incident comes amid rising tensions in the U.S. linked to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which has sparked a surge in antisemitic threats and attacks. Last week, two Israeli Embassy staffers were killed in a shooting in Washington, D.C.
Run For Their Lives, the organization behind the Boulder event, clarified that it was not a protest. “This was a peaceful walk in solidarity with the hostages and their families, calling for their release,” the group said in a statement.
Ed Victor, one of the participants, said about 30 people took part in the walk. “We were simply trying to raise awareness that many hostages are still being held in Gaza,” he told local media.
