Mr. Biden Calls to Congratulate President-elect Trump

President Joe Biden Calls Donald Trump to Congratulate Him on Victory, Commits to Smooth Transition of Power

"President Biden is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and emphasized the importance of cooperation to unite the country," the White House spokesperson stated regarding the content of the call on November 6.

President Biden also invited Mr. Trump to the White House and called Vice President Kamala Harris to commend her for leading a "historic campaign." The White House further noted that President Biden is scheduled to deliver a nationwide address on the election results on November 7.

Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Mr. Trump’s campaign, expressed the President-elect’s appreciation for the call from President Biden, adding that a meeting between the two is expected to "take place soon." "Mr. Trump is looking forward to the meeting," Cheung stated.

Following Vice President Harris’s concession to Mr. Trump, President Biden praised her as "an outstanding partner and a leader of great integrity, courage, and character." He highlighted her leadership during a historic campaign under extraordinary circumstances, showcasing what can be achieved under someone with a strong moral compass and a clear vision for a more free, fair, and opportunity-filled nation for all Americans.

President Biden also affirmed that choosing Harris as his running mate was "the best decision" he had ever made. "Above all, she will continue to be a leader admired by future generations, leaving a lasting impact on America's future," he added.

Former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, also extended their congratulations to President-elect Trump and his running mate in a social media message.

The Obamas acknowledged that this outcome was "clearly" not what they had hoped for, given their deep differences with the Republican leaders. However, they emphasized that living in a democracy means accepting that one’s views won’t always prevail and underscored the importance of a peaceful transition of power.

"In a nation as vast and diverse as the United States, we won’t always see things the same way. But to achieve progress, goodwill and respect—even toward those with whom we deeply disagree—are essential. That’s how we have reached today and how we will continue building a more just, honest, equal, and free country," the Obamas wrote.

Mr. Trump was elected president after securing numerous wins in battleground states on November 5. He is the first U.S. president in a century to serve two non-consecutive terms. In his early morning speech to supporters on November 6, Mr. Trump declared, "We have made history."
