South Korea does not rule out the possibility of transferring weapons to Ukraine.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol announced that he would consider the possibility of providing weapons to Ukraine as North Korea intensifies its cooperation with Russia.

"We will gradually adjust our support strategy for Ukraine in phases," President Yoon stated on November 7. "This means we are not ruling out the option of transferring weapons to Ukraine."

South Korea, one of the world's major arms exporters, has long maintained a policy of not supplying weapons to countries engaged in conflict. However, President Yoon's statement indicates that South Korea may reconsider this stance, particularly in light of North Korea's growing collaboration with Russia.

Last year, President Yoon mentioned that South Korea could provide military aid to Ukraine if the conflict reached a particularly grave situation. The country has already offered tens of millions of dollars in humanitarian aid to Ukraine, along with 20 types of non-lethal equipment such as bulletproof helmets and medical supplies.

President Yoon's statement came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on the evening of November 5 that Ukrainian forces had engaged in combat with North Korean personnel assisting Russia. He also called on the international community to continue supporting Kyiv. However, President Zelensky has not yet provided evidence to substantiate these claims.

Russia and North Korea have not commented on the report.

Russia's ambassador to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, dismissed allegations on October 31 that "North Korean troops were deployed on the Kursk front," accusing the United States and the United Kingdom of spreading false information.

He stated that even if such Western claims were true, "why do the U.S. and its allies insist on a flawed logic that they have the right to assist Ukraine, while Russia's allies do not have the right to do the same?"

Moscow and Pyongyang have grown closer since Russia launched its campaign in Ukraine in early 2022. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has referred to President Putin as "the closest friend" of his country.
