Trump Announces Israel and Iran Have Reached Ceasefire Agreement

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Israel and Iran have reached a comprehensive ceasefire, officially ending 12 days of intense conflict between the two regional powers.

“Congratulations to all! Israel and Iran have agreed to a full ceasefire,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. He added that the agreement would be implemented in phases, with Iran halting its operations first, followed by Israel 12 hours later.

“If all goes according to plan—and I’m confident it will—this will mark the official end of the 12-Day War, something the world should welcome,” Trump said. “This conflict could have lasted years and devastated the entire Middle East, but that outcome has now been avoided. God bless Israel, Iran, the Middle East, the United States, and the world.”

According to Trump, the ceasefire will take effect six hours after his post, with the final phase concluding 24 hours later.

A senior Iranian official confirmed to Reuters that Tehran accepted the ceasefire terms proposed by Washington. Israel has not yet commented publicly. Speaking to Fox News shortly after the announcement, Vice President JD Vance praised Trump for “delivering a ceasefire that ends the bloodshed.”

“Iran cannot build a nuclear weapon with the equipment they have left,” Vance added, referencing the U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

The conflict erupted on June 13 when Israel launched preemptive airstrikes under “Operation Rising Lion,” targeting Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists. Iran responded with a series of retaliatory attacks under “True Promise 3.” The two sides exchanged continuous strikes, resulting in significant casualties on both ends.

In a dramatic escalation, the U.S. joined the conflict on June 22, deploying stealth bombers to strike Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities. President Trump later declared the operation a total success, stating that the targeted facilities had been severely damaged. However, it remains unclear how significantly Iran’s nuclear program has been set back.

On June 23, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for missile strikes on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar and another U.S. military facility in Iraq. Both bases house thousands of American troops. Despite the attacks, U.S. officials told multiple media outlets that Iran had warned Qatar in advance, likely to avoid mass casualties.
