Trump Demands Colorado Remove ‘Ugly’ Portrait

President Donald Trump is calling on the state of Colorado to take down what he described as a “very ugly” portrait of himself displayed in the state Capitol building.

“No one likes an unflattering picture of themselves, and the portrait of me—hung in the Colorado Capitol alongside other presidents—was intentionally distorted like nothing I’ve ever seen,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on March 23.

The president criticized the artist, Sarah Boardman, saying she did a “beautiful” job capturing former President Barack Obama, but portrayed him in “the worst way.” “It seems her talent faded with age,” Trump added.

Trump went on to say he would rather not have a portrait at all than be represented by the one currently hanging in the building. He claimed many Colorado residents have contacted state officials to request that the painting be replaced or removed.

“I’m speaking on behalf of the people in asking Governor Jared Polis—who has done a terrible job on crime—to take it down. Jared should be ashamed of himself,” Trump said.

The portrait in question has been on display in the Colorado Capitol since 2019, during Trump’s first term in office.

A spokesperson for Governor Polis responded, saying the governor was surprised to learn that President Trump was so invested in the artwork and furnishings of the state Capitol.

“We appreciate the president’s and the public’s interest in our state Capitol building and always welcome opportunities to improve the experience for visitors,” the spokesperson said, though they did not confirm whether the portrait would be removed.
