President Donald Trump said he is willing to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House once more to push for peace negotiations.
On March 11, Trump stated he is open to another face-to-face meeting with Zelensky despite tensions between the two leaders following their heated Oval Office exchange on February 28.
When asked whether Zelensky would be invited back to the White House, Trump responded, "Yes, absolutely."
Their last meeting ended in a fiery dispute between Zelensky, Trump, and Vice President JD Vance, straining U.S.-Ukraine relations. Washington later accused Kyiv of not being ready for peace, suspended military aid, and halted intelligence sharing with Ukraine. U.S. officials even publicly speculated about the possibility of Zelensky stepping down as a condition for restoring cooperation. However, both sides have since softened their rhetoric.
"I think this time will be very different from what you saw last time," Trump said.
Breakthrough in U.S.-Ukraine Talks
Following negotiations between U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia, Washington announced that it would immediately restore intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Kyiv. The Zelensky administration has also agreed to a 30-day temporary ceasefire, while the U.S. is working to persuade Russia to commit to the same terms.
"Regarding the ceasefire, Ukraine has agreed, and I hope Russia will as well," Trump stated. "I think the ceasefire could take effect within the next few days."
Trump added that he plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon—possibly this week—to discuss the ceasefire, emphasizing that peace requires agreement from both sides.
"U.S. officials have an important meeting with Russia tomorrow, and I hope for productive discussions," Trump said.
Global Reactions
The joint U.S.-Ukraine ceasefire proposal was welcomed by European leaders, though Moscow has yet to respond or issue an official statement.
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy praised the development, calling it a "breakthrough" in U.S.-Ukraine talks and expressing support for broader international efforts toward peace.
French President Emmanuel Macron also welcomed Ukraine’s agreement to the 30-day ceasefire, urging Russia to reciprocate.
"The ball is now in Russia’s court. France and its partners will continue working toward a lasting peace, backed by strong security commitments for Ukraine," Macron posted on X.
