The U.S. is set to launch a new "Gold Card" visa program, priced at $5 million, creating a new pathway for legal immigration.

"We’re going to sell a Gold Card. We already have the Green Card, and now we’ll have a Gold Card," U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on February 25, while signing executive orders alongside Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

"We’re pricing it at around $5 million, and it will offer similar benefits to a Green Card," Trump added.

Gold Card Program to Launch in Two Weeks

Trump announced that the program will be rolled out within the next two weeks, emphasizing that his administration does not need congressional approval to implement it. However, details on the program’s scale and execution remain unclear.

Replacing the EB-5 Investor Visa?

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick suggested that the Gold Card visa could replace the existing EB-5 visa program, which currently allows foreign investors to obtain Green Cards by investing in U.S. businesses.

When asked whether applicants would need to invest in the U.S. to qualify, Lutnick confirmed that they would need to contribute a specific amount, which could be paid directly to the U.S. government.

"Instead of continuing the meaningless EB-5 program, we will end it and replace it with President Trump’s Gold Card," Lutnick stated. "They will be able to pay $5 million to the U.S. government. Of course, we will conduct thorough vetting to ensure they are top-tier global citizens."

He added that revenue from the Gold Card program would be used to reduce the federal budget deficit.
