Trump Responds to Passenger Plane Crash:

President Donald Trump on January 29 said that the collision between a U.S. military helicopter and a passenger plane "should have been prevented."

"Why didn’t air traffic control issue a directive to the helicopter instead of just asking if they saw the passenger plane?" Trump wrote on Truth Social, citing audio recordings from LiveATC.net capturing the final moments before the crash.

"This is a terrible situation and should have been prevented," he continued, adding, "NOT GOOD AT ALL!!!"

Earlier the same day, Trump said he had received a "full briefing" on the crash and was "monitoring the situation closely," promising to "provide further updates as more details emerge."

Audio Recording Reveals Final Moments Before Collision

According to the audio logs, air traffic controllers had contacted the Black Hawk helicopter belonging to the U.S. Army and asked whether the American Airlines Flight 5342 was in its line of sight.

The recording also captured the shock and disbelief of air traffic controllers when the collision occurred, CNN reported.

Crash Details and Ongoing Rescue Efforts

Washington, D.C. police sources confirmed that Flight 5342 had departed from Wichita, Kansas, earlier that day before crashing near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

American Airlines confirmed on the evening of January 29 that there were 60 passengers and four crew members on board at the time of the accident. The aircraft, a CRJ-700, has a maximum capacity of 65 passengers.

A law enforcement source confirmed fatalities but did not disclose the number of victims. Rescue operations remain ongoing as authorities search for survivors.

The Department of Homeland Security stated that the U.S. Coast Guard has deployed "all available resources" to assist in the search-and-rescue mission.
