Trump Wears Golf Attire While Overseeing Houthi Airstrikes

The White House released photos of President Donald Trump wearing golf attire while monitoring U.S. airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen.

"President Trump is taking decisive action against the Houthis to protect American shipping assets and prevent terrorist threats. For too long, the Houthis have posed risks to the U.S. economy and national interests. That will not be tolerated under this administration," the White House posted on X (formerly Twitter) on March 15.

Accompanying the statement was a photo of Trump wearing a white polo shirt with his name embroidered on it, a red 'Make America Great Again' cap, and black headphones. He stood in front of a blurred-out screen, which appeared to display real-time footage of the airstrikes. Also visible in the images were National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The airstrikes were ordered while Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. The MAGA hat and golf polo are his signature look when playing golf.

On March 15, Trump announced that the U.S. military was carrying out strikes on Houthi bases, leadership figures, and missile defense systems to "protect American ships, assets in the air and at sea, and restore freedom of navigation." He warned that Houthis would face "hell like never before" if they did not stop attacking international shipping lanes.

The Airstrike Operation

The airstrikes were conducted in part by fighter jets from the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees military operations in the Middle East, described the strikes as the beginning of a large-scale campaign across Yemen.

At least 31 people were killed and 101 wounded in the attacks on Houthi strongholds in the capital Sanaa, Saada, and other locations, according to the group’s health ministry.

The Houthis and their backers in Iran have vowed to retaliate, raising concerns of further escalation in the region.
