“I’ve been talking to a lot of people about TikTok. TikTok is getting a lot of attention,” President Donald Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Florida, according to Reuters.
"Many people—very credible people—are discussing a potential acquisition with me. I may make a decision within the next 30 days," he added. "Congress has given us 90 days. If we can save TikTok, I think that would be a good thing."
Earlier in the day, Reuters reported that the Trump administration is working to secure TikTok's future, including proposing a deal where software giant Oracle and a group of investors would take control of the app.
Under the agreement currently being negotiated by the White House, ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, would retain a stake in the company. However, Oracle would oversee data collection and software updates. Oracle already provides web infrastructure services to TikTok.
Sources suggest the proposed deal with Oracle is flexible and could evolve. One source noted that the agreement's scope has not been finalized and could include operations in both the U.S. and other regions.
Despite the ongoing discussions, Trump stated on Air Force One that he has not spoken with Oracle CEO Larry Ellison about a potential acquisition.
In addition to Oracle, several U.S.-based investors in ByteDance, such as Susquehanna International Group, General Atlantic, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR), and Sequoia Capital, might also participate in the deal.
