U.S. Approves $1.4 Billion Arms Deal with UAE Amid Trump’s Middle East Visit

The U.S. State Department has approved two major arms deals worth more than $1.4 billion with the United Arab Emirates, including the sale of six CH-47 Chinook helicopters and parts for F-16 fighter jets — a move announced as President Donald Trump embarks on a four-day trip to the Middle East.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the first deal, valued at $1.32 billion, includes six CH-47F Block II Chinook helicopters along with engines, missile warning systems, machine guns, aerial refueling equipment, and other support gear.

The second deal, worth $130 million, covers maintenance services and replacement parts for the UAE’s F-16 fighter fleet.

The DSCA stated the deals aim to “support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives” by boosting the defense capabilities of the UAE — a key American partner in the region. The sales still require congressional approval. Lawmakers now have 30 days to raise objections. If no opposition is filed, the deals will move forward for final sign-off by President Trump.

Approval is widely expected, as the State Department emphasized the UAE’s use of these assets for counterterrorism operations, humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and search-and-rescue missions.

The announcement comes as President Trump begins his first overseas trip of his second term, with stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE.
