U.S. Secretary of State: Now is the Time to End the Gaza Conflict

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has called for an end to the conflict in Gaza, urging Israel to avoid escalating tensions with Iran. During his visit to Israel on October 22, Blinken emphasized that Israel has achieved most of its strategic objectives in Gaza and now should focus on turning these gains into a lasting victory. He stressed the importance of bringing hostages home, ending the war, and having a clear plan for Gaza's future that excludes both Hamas’s control and Israel’s presence.

Blinken also urged Israel to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza, especially in the north, where civilians are being asked to evacuate. He cautioned Israel to respond to Iran’s recent missile attacks in a way that avoids further escalation.

Since the conflict began, more than 43,000 people in Gaza, mostly civilians, have died, and over 100,000 have been injured, according to Gaza’s health authorities. Blinken reaffirmed the U.S. opposition to any Israeli occupation of Gaza, and Netanyahu assured him that Israel has no plans for such an occupation.

After Israel, Blinken will visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UK to discuss the Gaza war and regional issues.
