U.S. Senator Mocks Elon Musk as 'President'

Senator Bernie Sanders mocked Elon Musk as "President" after the American billionaire claimed that lawmakers supporting the spending agreement "don’t deserve to be elected."

"Democratic and Republican lawmakers have been negotiating for months to reach a bipartisan agreement to keep the government funded. The richest man in the world, President Elon Musk, doesn’t like it. Will Republicans obey? Billionaires should not be running our government," Independent Senator Bernie Sanders wrote on social media on December 18.

Sanders’ remark came after President-elect Donald Trump and several allies, including Musk, opposed a short-term spending bill proposing a $6.2 trillion federal budget to keep the government operational until March 14. The bill included provisions to maintain current funding levels for government agencies, allocate $100 billion for disaster relief, and provide $10 billion in agricultural aid.

Although the bill aimed to prevent a government shutdown, Musk fiercely opposed it. Within 12 hours, the billionaire posted over 60 messages on social media platform X, pressuring House Republicans to block the legislation.

Musk declared that lawmakers supporting the bill did not deserve reelection. "Any lawmaker voting for this reckless spending bill should not be reelected in two years. Call your representatives and let them know how you feel!" Musk wrote.

He further criticized lawmakers for "trying to pass the bill when no one is paying attention." Under growing pressure, House Republicans eventually abandoned the bill without a contingency plan, increasing the likelihood of a government shutdown starting December 21.

Gordon Gray, executive director of the centrist Pinpoint Policy Institute, remarked that Musk's influence in American politics is "extraordinary," despite holding no official government position. Musk was chosen by President-elect Donald Trump to co-lead the Government Efficiency Board, but the role is not an official cabinet position.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre urged Republicans to "honor their commitments" to prevent a government shutdown. "Republicans must stop playing political games with this bipartisan agreement, or they will harm hardworking Americans and destabilize the country," she stated.
