World Leaders Congratulate Trump

Leaders from China, France, Israel, the UK, and many other countries congratulated Donald Trump after U.S. media projected him as the president-elect.

French President Emmanuel Macron today congratulated "President Donald Trump" and expressed his readiness to work with him with "respect and ambition" as they did during their previous four years together. In a post on X, Macron emphasized that his relationship with Trump was built on "mutual trust" and collaboration "for greater peace and prosperity."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed Trump’s victory as "the greatest comeback in history," calling it "a new beginning for America and a strong commitment to the great alliance between Israel and the United States." Trump’s expected victory was also viewed as a win for many Israelis, given his strong support for Israel and close relationship with Netanyahu.

As vote counts tilted in Trump’s favor, China expressed hope for "peaceful coexistence" between the two nations. "We will continue to approach and manage China-U.S. relations based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation. We respect the choice of the American people," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte commented that Trump’s return to power would help maintain a "strong alliance." "His leadership will once again play a crucial role in keeping our alliance strong. I look forward to working with him again to promote peace through NATO's strength," Rutte said.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer congratulated Trump on his "historic victory" and reaffirmed the enduring strength of the UK-U.S. relationship. "As the closest allies, our two nations stand together to defend shared values of freedom, democracy, and face challenges. From growth and security to innovation and technology, I know the special relationship between the UK and the U.S. will continue to thrive across the Atlantic for many years to come," he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also congratulated Trump on his "impressive victory" and expressed hope that Trump’s term would bring peace to Ukraine. "I appreciate President Trump's commitment to 'peace through strength' in global affairs. This is precisely the approach that can bring a just peace to Ukraine," Zelensky stated.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Trump on his "historic election victory." "As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to continuing our collaboration," Modi said.

Trump is projected to have secured at least 270 electoral votes, becoming the second U.S. president in history to serve two non-consecutive terms. In his victory speech to supporters in Florida, he declared that "history has been made." AP projections also indicated that the Republican Party would control at least 51 seats in the U.S. Senate, marking the first time in four years they would hold a majority in the chamber. The party is also expected to gain a majority in the House of Representatives.

With control of both chambers of Congress and the White House, Trump would have significant power to advance his policy proposals into law.
