Zelensky Swaps Military Look for Suit in NATO Meeting with Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky debuted a noticeably different look at the NATO summit in The Hague on June 25, donning formal attire as he met with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Wearing a black collared shirt, a tailored military-style black blazer, matching black trousers, and black sneakers, Zelensky departed from the combat-style outfits that had become his signature since the war with Russia began in 2022.

“If President Trump sees Zelensky at tonight’s leaders’ dinner, he might not recognize him,” said Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy during a live report from the Netherlands. “This time, Zelensky’s in a suit.”

Others on social media echoed the observation. “Wow—Zelensky actually wore a suit this time,” conservative podcaster Nick Sortor posted on X. “He’s not making the same mistake as last time in the Oval Office. Especially now that Ukraine is running out of money.”

“Zelensky needs another $40 billion a year,” added commentator Steve Gruber. “Clearly, he’s learned something.”

Back in February, Zelensky’s decision to wear military fatigues during a tense Oval Office meeting with Trump drew criticism. He later defended his appearance, saying the outfit symbolizes solidarity with Ukraine’s armed forces and that he would continue wearing it until the war ends.

The shift in style comes amid a critical moment for Kyiv. Zelensky’s updated look contrasts with Trump’s famously formal dress code and preference for suits—an expectation he reportedly extends even to billionaire Elon Musk.

Their February meeting ended in visible tension, with Zelensky reportedly asked to leave the White House and not invited to lunch. But this week’s encounter in The Hague appeared more constructive.

“I had a long and meaningful meeting with President Trump,” Zelensky shared on social media. “We talked about every issue that truly matters.”

“I want to thank the President and the American people,” he added. “We discussed how to move toward a ceasefire and a real peace. We talked about protecting the people of both countries. We appreciate America’s interest and willingness to help push forward the peace process. More details will be shared later.”
